Awards Criteria

Award Evaluation Criteria

Directors will engage in holistic evaluation of delegates when it comes to award deliberations. Selections will not be made based on rigid criteria or a strict, points-based rubric. Rather, directors will consider delegates’ achievements and development in the dynamic context of the conference. For instance, award winners will not necessarily be those who have the greatest amount of speeches or who are featured the most in committee documents. Significant personal improvement and embodiment of core values, for example, are also merits. Model delegates are those who demonstrate exemplary committee participation reflecting both quantity and quality. Award winners are those who become essential to the committee, facilitating an enriching experience for all involved. Yale Model United Nations Latin America hopes that delegates will harness their passion for international affairs and love for the advancement of humankind during the conference to engage in effective dialogue on key societal issues. Delegates should do so in an orderly manner, using proper debate procedure that emphasizes diplomacy, collaboration and mutual respect. All of this results in progress, as successful delegates propel the committee forward in building consensus and crafting critical solutions.

How many awards will be allocated in each committee? The amount of prizes given in each committee will differ depending on size and total number of delegates. Each of our 13 committees will recognize one (1) delegate for their exceptional position paper, which reflects excellence in research, communication and language skills. Additionally, directors will give awards to delegates who contribute substantially to debate using holistic evaluation criteria.

  • Every committee will be given one (1) award for “Best Position Paper.” For more information on position papers, please review the “Position Papers” page on our website.

  • This applies for the following committees:

Comisión de Población y Desarrollo (CPD - en español)

NOTE: For double-delegations, both delegates would win the same award and each receive a certificate. For example, if the double-delegation of Brazil (which is represented by two people) in SPECPOL wins Best Delegate, both delegates are Best Delegates.
